Interjectional Thoughts (Or Why I Decorate With Books)

We take a break from our regularly scheduled programming (ie Simplicity In Steps) to bring you a few interjectional thoughts.

Thought #1: Today is my nephew Oliver’s birthday! Oliver, I still can’t believe that it’s been 8 years since I paced outside your delivery room waiting to meet you.  I’ve been so close to you, watching you grow from a tiny baby into a child into the crazy child-preteen hybrid you’ve come to be.  I love you so much and I will always be your AJ.  Happy Birthday!

Thought #2: I want this book so bad it hurts sometimes.

Thought #3: Speaking of books, I recently read an article that discussed how to decorate with bookshelves.  That’s great and everything, only one of the main rules it gave was: Don’t decorate with books. What!?

To be fair, it said, you can decorate with books as long as they are hardcover, leather-bound classics.  I’m sorry but as an avid reader and book collector, that’s not really an option for me.  Even since my foray into simplicity, I’ve still yet been unable to part with many of my books.

So, since they are so important to me, other things have had to go. I don’t have many knick-knacks or decorative items to display, so I decorate with books.  And that really works for us.  It is important to use your strengths when making your home.  Don’t listen to style magazines that tell you your home has to look a certain way or you have to decorate (or not decorate) with certain items.  Use what you love to make a home that you both love and enjoy.

Thought #4: Travis started his final semester of school today. This has been a long time coming and I’m so proud of him!  For myself, I have to admit that it is really weird not having classes to go to or papers to write, but honestly, what I miss more than anything today is my husband.  Though I miss it, I will be glad when college is behind us and we can move on to new adventures.

Thanks for listening to my random thoughts.  We’ll be getting back to Simplicity In Steps later this week when we’ll be talking about simplifying sentimental items.  Happy Monday!
